MINTO COUNTRY MUSIC WALL OF FAME INC.
Oscar Egers

2001 INDUCTEE
Oscar was born in Salmon Creek but he has lived in Chipman, NB for almost all of his life.  He is married to Connie (Curley) and they had a family of three, two of who are deceased.

Oscar's interest in music blossomed during his teenage years.  Although he later showed an aptitude for a variety of musical instruments, it was the fiddle that became his instrument of choice.

For forty-five years Oscar and his fiddle have brought enjoyment to literally thousands of people.  Throughout his career, Oscar played with many groups, and in many places - Saturday Night Jamboree, Phillips Brothers, Bob Cunningham Band, Dungarvon Country Band, and Legions throughout the province.  Oscar was a regular on the NB Country Showcase, and with a local band played for the dances at the Minto Senior Citizens' Complex.

Oscar has always placed a high priority on volunteering his musical talents for worthy causes - St. Patrick night in both Chipman and Fredericton, where he was honoured by being presented with an Irish Shillelagh, community benefit telethons in both Chipman and Minto, Christmas Daddies program televised in Moncton.  He entertains the seniors at Wilfred G. Bishop Nursing Home in Minto, and Vets and Friends Programs at the local legion and at the Veterans' Hospital in Fredericton.

As we reflect on the musical career of Oscar Egers, we realize that he played not for the praise that he regularly received, but for the love of music and the joy of entertaining his listeners.
