MINTO COUNTRY MUSIC WALL OF FAME INC.
Aubrey Hanson

2002 INDUCTEE
Aubrey was born in Fredericton on February 17, 1930.  He began his entertainment career in his elementary school days by singing and playing the mouth organ.  At age 9 he received his first guitar as a Christmas present.  He took lessons from Karl Lofstrom and went on learn to play the steel guitar, banjo and mandolin.

During the Second World War he entertained the local soldiers and this led to his first professional job with Bert Creighan whose band had a show on CFNB radio.  Aubrey played at one time or another with most Maritime musicians.  At age 15 he was playing dances in the area with his own band.  For years the "Country Ramblers" hit the road every Friday and Saturday night doing dances in such places as Lakeville Corner, the Narrows, Boiestown and many Maritime centers.  One of his greatest thrills was being backup band for Wilf Carter's 1978 Maritime tour.

He appeared on CFNB from the 1940's on and had his own Saturday morning early show that ran from 1960 to 1990.  Following that he appeared with Barb Roberts on the CBC morning show, a weekly show on City Cablevision, and later on KHJ.  "Aubrey's Picks" with Brent Buchanan were heard on Friday mornings on KHJ until his death.

Aubrey's recordings include 2 in the 1950's with Karl Lofstrom.  His LP, A Maritime Legend was released in the 's80s.  He released 5 cassettes and a CD "AUBviously" between 1989 and 1993, all 6 of which he was proud to say were made by his son Lloyd at Lloyd's Reel North Recording Studio in Fredericton.  Many songs and instrumentals were his own compositions.  Aubrey also spent 20 years as a bass drummer with the St. Andrews Society Bagpipe Band.

One of Aubrey proudest achievements was the establishment of the New Brunswick Music Hall of Fame in 1983. A proud Frederictonian, Aubrey served on many committees including chairing the Canada Day and River Jubilee Committees and serving on committees at the Grace Memorial United Baptist Church.

Among the many honors and awards that came to Aubrey over the years was his induction into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame himself, he was made a Paul Harris Fellow, received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, and was the first New Brunswicker to receive the ECMA Stompin' Tom Connors Unsung Hero Award in 1996.

Aubrey assisted the ad hoc committee that led to the formation of the Minto Country Music "Wall of Fame".

A faithful man, Aubrey married the former Faye Steeves in 1958 and the couple has two sons Lloyd and Lorne.  Aubrey died in June of 2002 at the age of 72.
